1. Soundgarden – “Spoonman” (from “Superunknown”)
Look no further for a perfectly crafted song. “Spoonman” comes in at number 1 this week in Grunge. The song consists of many odd time signatures and an insane spoons solo. It definitely got Soundgarden on the map in Grunge, and remains one of my favorite songs of all time today. Check out “Spoonman” and the rest of Soundgarden’s album Superunknown.
2. Nirvana – “In Bloom” (from “Nevermind”)
“In Bloom comes in a close second. Being one of Nirvana’s greatest hits, it is a staple of the Grunge genre. The song fuses influences of punk and hard rock. It’s half-time feel and distorted guitar makes for a simple, yet perfect piece of work. The song, as well as Nirvana itself, still has an affect on modern rock music today.
3. Creed – “Weathered” (from “Weathered”)
Creed was one of the first bands I ever got exposed to. “Weathered” clocks in at number 3 this week. This is one of their greatest hits in my book. The bridge in this song has got to be one of the best ever written. The groove is there, and it elevates the song so much.
