BingeWatching: “Grey’s Anatomy” (March 10)

We’re back in Shondaland, but not quite Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. This week’s episode featured a lot of off-campus subject matter. But not to worry: We still got our dose of equal parts inspiration, surprise and drama.

Some of our favorite doctors – Callie Torres, Miranda Bailey, Jackson Avery and, of course, Meredith Grey – are recruited to do a life-saving surgery on a man with a difficult tumor. After thinking they had plenty of time to practice their experimental surgery plan, the patient takes a fall and they are forced to bus to the patient’s usual hospital and operate.

(I should mention that on their way to the other hospital, Bailey talks to Meredith about a “handsome neurological opthamologist” who was asking about her. I think we can all agree that Meredith should NOT move on. Is that what Derek would have wanted? Honestly, when you’ve married Derek Shepherd, you’ve peaked. There’s nothing else up there!)

Once they arrive, they are met with the patient’s angry surgeon, who protests the operation and argues with the Grey Sloan crew. Callie, full of confidence, calls them the “dream team” and explains that they’re there to make a miracle happen. Who wouldn’t believe that?

Their plan becomes a little shaky when Callie realizes, all of a sudden, that she can’t do it. Orthopaedic goddess, makes-bones-out-of-nothing Callie Torres can’t do the surgery. (Dream team? Not so dreamy anymore.)

While Callie pauses outside to think, the others panic in the OR, trying to convince the original doctor that their plan is in tact. Callie still struggles to figure out her new plan back at the other hospital. It is Meredith who gives her a rousing pep talk about pushing people away especially when you need them most. Coincidentally, that’s the same problem Meredith had a few episodes ago.

Thanks to Mer, Callie is back with a brilliant plan. They operate seamlessly and, of course, get their desired result. Lesson learned: Never doubt the dream team.

And I personally think this episode held a bigger life lesson: People should be like squirrels. You know how they all do their part to get things done? Like that. When the doctors relaxed and let Callie figure out what she needed to do, that’s when things got done.

We’re still waiting on April telling Jackson about the baby and Jo’s answer to Alex’s proposal. But, we’ll have to wait out the week until we binge again next Thursday at 8 p.m.!
