Tensions rise between rappers Megan and Nicki through their lyrics.

In the dynamic genre of rap, Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion, queens of the music industry, are at the center of an intense lyrical showdown. Fans are tuning in for updates on the feud, listening to them take shots  through their own version of fighting words :song lyrics.

Megan and Nicki started out as friends in 2019, each complimenting the other on social media and later coming out with their song together, “Hot Girl Summer.” The summer hit reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Megan denied the collaboration changed her relationship with Minaj [after WAP collab with Cardi B], but the two rappers reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram months later,” Forbes said in a Jan. 30 article.

Recently, tensions have risen with Megan’s release of “Hiss.” The song is rumored to be a diss track about Nicki.

“One line, fans say, seems pointed at Minaj’s family: ‘These h–s don’t be mad at Megan, these h–s mad at Megan’s Law.’ The Washington Post said in a Jan. 29 article, references the federal law that requires police to share information with the public about convicted and registered sex offenders. Alledgedly, this lyric is targeted at Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, a registered sex offender.

Minaj fired back almost immediately, announcing the release of her song “Big Foot” on X, the title seemingly referencing Megan’s height and her being shot in the foot by Tory Lanez. Minaj even went as far as to comment on Megan’s late mother, who passed away in 2019, within the song.

“Minaj claims Megan lied about the shooting incident with Lanez while referencing the death of Megan’s mother, saying: “Swearin’ on your dead mother when you lie” and “F— you get shot with no scar?” The Washington Post said.

Soon after, Megan posted an Instagram story of her laughing, but never directly mentioning the song. Minaj, however, wants everyone to know where she stands.

“Minaj says on X that she has five songs ready to release if Megan so much as ‘breathes’ wrong,” The Washington Post said.

As the battle between the rap artists continues, clashing of pointed lyrics leave people anticipating the next chapter of the feud.
