Ranking the HORRIBLE months of 2020

By Charley Rich and Mimi Ali

While this whole year was sort of the absolute worst, there were a few months that were less soul-sucking than others. Here is Chirmi Ralich’s ranking of the best of the worst year in review, based on freedom and overall happiness.

  1. July: The summer months were like a break in the pandemic locally. Everyone got a small taste of normal life. July was special though because it is smack in the middle of the summer when no one is worried about the previous or upcoming school year.
  2. August: August was a really good month because it was the beginning of Leo season and it always comes with good energy. The last month of summer before the stresses of online school.
  3. June: June was the first month out of school (which barely felt like school at the time), and the time it felt like summer! People were still quarantining, but life felt a little more real.
  4. October: October did not make it to the top 3 months of the year, but it was still a great month because of Libra season! Air signs are the best signs, period. October was also the month people began to get used to online school, which is the norm now, but it was kind of wacky because it started getting cold.
  5. January: January was a good month because everyone was still excited for what 2020 had to offer: Halloween and Fourth of July on Saturdays, and the hope of a new decade ahead. In hindsight, we were all wrong, but at the time, January seemed like a wonderful beginning to a new chapter.
  6. February: The last month of normalcy. I think we all look back at the beginning of the year and wish we savored the time we had a bit more.
  7. May: Things started to open up again in May. There was hope but still a bunch of restrictions and covid paranoia.
  8. December: December would definitely be lower on this list if it weren’t for the holidays and the end of 2020. It’s cold, it’s miserable and everyone is sad. Covid cases are at record highs and no one knows what to do.
  9. September: September was an OK month, but it’s when school started so it had to be ranked low. Online school was a pain trying to figure out, and the cold instantly came out of nowhere.
  10. November: Nothing really happened in November. School kind of began taking our lives over again at this point. There were a lot of increasing COVID cases too.
  11. March: COVID began. We had to quarantine for most of March and no one really knew much about COVID, so it was such a scary time. Ever since March, everything changed. Although, this isn’t the worst month because the first half of march was still normal. Springs sports started and it was still a good time.
  12. April: APRIL WAS THE WORST!!! April was basically an extension of the second half of March meaning everyone was all lonely inside their houses and scared of coronavirus. Even in April it was still pretty cold so no one could even really go outside.
