In the past four years, the entertainment industry has lost countless celebrities that affect the lives of their fans even years after their deaths. From singers to actors to athletes, the death of a beloved public figure is a hard thing to overcome for their diehard fans. 

For some reason, it always seems that celebrities are more prone to accidents. Also, there is the added issue of rap culture. In the past few years the hip-hop industry has lost many crucial members. This arises debates of the effect of rap music’s content on the rapper and their audience. 

It is obvious that rap music has become increasingly more explicit and became a genre innappropriate for younger children. However, easily influenced children can become interested in rap and latch on to some particular artists. 

Some of the biggest rap names that hip hop has lost in recent years include Mac Miller, Juice Wrld, Nipsey Hussle, XXXTentacion, Lil Peep and Pop Smoke. Mac Miller, Juice WRLD and Lil Peep all died of drug overdoses while Nipsey Hussle, XXXTentacion and Pop Smoke were unfortunate victims of gun violence. 

A lot of rap songs include explicit lyrics about drugs and violence, which contributes to the dangerous lifestyles that the rappers themselves live. Furthermore, the listeners of their music allow themselves to admire the lifestyle that rappers live. Along with drugs and violence, rappers include a lot of lyrics about designer clothes and wealth which fans attempt to emulate in support of their favorite rappers. 

Some fans seem to think that lyrics about drugs are necessary for success in the rap industry. Because of this, many fans are unbothered by the fact that some rap music portrays glorified drug addiction and gang violence. 

Although some of the most famous rappers have passed away in the past few years, there are many other beloved celebrities who lost their lives. 

For example, one of the most recent and notable deaths of the last few years was sports legend Kobe Bryant. Bryant died in a helicopter crash along with his daughter, Gianna Bryant, and seven other passengers. 

In the summer of 2019, the entertainment industry lost Disney star Cameron Boyce at the age of 20. He died after suffering a seizure in his sleep. The social media response from his death brought together a large age range of fans after his fame as a teenager and his continuous fame up to the time of his death. 

All of the notable deaths in the past few years have been greatly affected as well. 

“If someone dies who is becoming famous it’s kind of like no one cares,” Junior Michael Aktas said. “But if someone who is very famous dies, it occupies social media for weeks. It’s all equally sad but just interesting how the level of fame affects the response.”

The death of a public figure is a tragedy but it is important to think about how their lifestyles affected their deaths. Social media also plays a major role in the mourning of a celebrity.
