New courses offer new possibilities

Juniors and underclassmen have a wide array of new courses in fields that have been unavailable in past years. The following courses will be available to all students in September of 2020, except for the AP Capstone, a two-year class open to only current freshmen and sophomores.

 

* AP Capstone (2 years: AP Seminar junior/AP Research senior) – AP Capstone diploma

  • Two year-long courses that complement other AP classes being taken by students
  • Courses range over multiple topics and classes
  • AP seminar and AP research
  • Not offered to rising seniors
  • Learn about college-level research, use databases, analyze information and  learn the difference between academic papers, journals and entertainment
  • The exam is a research paper and presentation
  • If you take four other AP classes and earn a three or higher on exams, this course goes on a transcript and stands out to colleges

* Animation and Game Design

  • Students will design and playtest their own video games
  • Learn the mechanics and dynamics of game coding
  • Creative and coding

* Cyber Security

  • Learn how to prevent cyberattacks
  • Learn types of attacks and encryptions
  • Keep networks safe
  • Network fundamentals

* Digital Marketing and Social Media

  • Designing posts/media for advertisements/influencers 
  • Leverage the internet for marketing purposes
  • Customer service and selling products

* Virtual Enterprise H (renamed Int’l Marketing/Business)

  • Using software to run a virtual corporation 
  • Compete against other schools
  • Learn the principles and fundamentals of business 
  • Apply them to a virtual business

* Freshman seminar

  • All departments included
  • Guidance heavily involved, once a week meeting
  • Be successful in high school, utilize resources, set goals, keep a schedule and learn productivity, self-esteem, common reading and self-care
  • No grade, pass/fail, credit included
