An unnamed whistleblower filed a complaint in August about a phone call President Trump made in July to President Zelensky of Ukraine; the Whistleblower said that Trump asked Zelensky to look into Senator Joe Biden’s son’s business dealings in the country. The impeachment investigation, which began on Sept. 24, was led by House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi along with the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence to see if Trump asked for aide in the 2020 election.

During most of the investigation, Democrats led by Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff had been holding closed-door meetings to discuss the complaint, which Trump had denounced, saying that the people should know what is going on. Trump also said that people should be able to know the name of the whistleblower, a request which the House’s impeachment committee has denied multiple times due to legal protection under the Whistleblower protection act of 1989.

According to a Nov. 12 report from USA Today, 47 percent of voters say that the whistleblower should come forward, while 53 percent say that he or she should remain anonymous. This means that a majority of the people polled in this story believe that a history-changing decision should be made without the public being informed of its basis. 

The current impeachment process is inherently biased, as about 80 percent of Democrats want to impeach, while only about 10 percent of Republicans support the process. Many people on the Republican side are not being fooled or swayed by Democrats’ one-sided evidence. According to a Nov. 15 report from McClatchy DC, there are two Democrats who have voted against articles of impeachment, who are Collin C. Peterson of Minnesota and Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey. According to a poll from FiveThirtyEight, 83% of citizens who identify as Democrats support the current impeachment hearings, while only 10% of citizens who identify as Republicans do. The fact that so few Republicans support the current impeachment proceedings shows just how partisan it is and that the process needs to end as soon as possible. This whistleblower is just a Trojan Horse for the Democrats to get what they want without following the rule of law.

House Democrats have recently invited Trump to testify in front of Congress, and Trump responded via tweet saying he would “strongly consider” the invitation, according to a Fox News report from Nov. 18. In the invitation, Pelosi warned Trump not to intimidate the whistleblower. This warning should be aimed back at the Democrats, as they have done nothing but attack Trump and try to get him out of the White House since Nov. 8, 2016, when Trump was elected. 

The irony of Pelosi’s statement and her actions is unreal. The whistleblower’s name needs to be revealed for the sake of due process, a right which has been withheld from our president ever since his election.
