Rolling Loud: Good lineup, bad price
November 5, 2019
Starting in the United States in Miami, then to Japan, Europe and China, the Rolling Loud music festival has taken the world by storm. For the first time, it was held this year in Queens, N.Y., on Oct. 12 and 13. Many people were bummed they couldn’t watch their favorite rappers perform live because of the starting price of $300, but for those who did go, the price was worth it.
The lineup for this music festival included Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Kendrick Lamar and many more top artists. Due to the expensive price, many people’s dreams to see these artists didn’t come true. But for some, such as senior Carson Mansfield, the price couldn’t keep him away.
“The price is fairly inexpensive if you are going for the experience,” Mansfield said. “Small price for a good time.”
Unlike Mansfield, junior Brianna Mattarazo, said she thinks the price wasn’t worth it. Mattarazo, who didn’t attend the two-day festival, said she’d rather put the money toward other things than a festival.
“I would never spend $300 on a concert,” Mattarazo said.
“I would rather spend my money on something that will last forever and not on something that won’t.”
As well as a high price, some parents think that it’s not age-appropriate for high-school students. Parents don’t want their kids at a free-for-all and where there is no adult supervision.
“My mom doesn’t want me to be near kids much older than me at a music festival,” senior Sammy Cattano said.
This is the largest hip-hop festival in the world. The performances begin at 12 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. There are performances all day long and a total of three stages. It’s hard to have some of your own space at a lot of festivals.
“I had a lot of fun, but it was really, really crowded and not a lot of space,” sophomore Nella Melillo said. “If you go to a festival like this you need to be prepared.”
