MLB World Series snapshot
October 30, 2019
The World Series is without a doubt the most anticipated series of baseball games during the MLB season, and it is finally here with the Washington Nationals facing off against the Houston Astros.
In the NLCS (National League Championship Series), The Nationals swept the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-0, in a best-of-seven series. This will be the Nationals’ first World Series appearance, which did not seem possible at the beginning of the season with the loss of star-player, Bryce Harper. The Nationals had a long road to the World Series after barely squeaking out a victory against the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Wild Card round.
In the ALCS (American League Championship Series), the hometown New York Yankees lost on Saturday to the Houston Astros by a score of 6-4 to end the series. Jose Altuve’s two-run walk-off home run to beat the Yankees in game six secured Houston’s spot in the championship. The Astros won the 2017 World Series, but are seeking for redemption from last year after losing to the Boston Red Sox in the 2018 ALCS. The Astros will be tough to beat after taking down the powerful offensive lineup of the Yankees, but the Nationals, on the other hand, are playing for their first-ever Commissioner’s Trophy in franchise history.
