Almost two years after Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” successfully messed with the minds of the public, Peele has released the trailer for a second feature, entitled “Us”. With its dark nature and twisted tone, the trailer is hard to miss. While “Us” is far from Peele’s first scary, thriller movie, he has announced that this movie is the most horror-like movie he has put out. The movie will follow an African American family that goes on vacation, only to find that a family that looks just like them is out to haunt and eventually kill them. Peele has revealed that these clones will be called “The Tethered”. While this is one of the only clear, and straight forward details that the trailer gives, many movie experts have been examining the trailer to predict what will happen in the movie.

One aspect of the trailer that many movie investigators are looking at is the Golden scissors that The Tethered seem to always carry with them. While it is clear that these are  the weapon that the Tethered will use in their attempts to murder the family, some think that the scissors have a double meaning. Scissors are a tool with two different pieces and if both pieces are not present, they can not function. Many have come to the conclusion that this parallels with the idea that the real family and the Tethered are two halves of one single identity. Although the family is terrified by the Tethered, they cannot function without them.

The family consists of two parents, an older daughter, and a younger son, however, there seems to be a little girl in the trailer who is not part of the family. Investigators believe that this little girl might be a younger version of the mother of the family. This allows for the inference that the movie will take place both in the past and the present.

Another object that continues to reappear in the trailer are bunnies. While many theorists are trying to look for a meaning for the bunnies,  Peele has announced that he simply chose to make rabbits a part of his movie because he just finds them scary.

Peele also stated that although his movie is not about race, he felt that it was important to center the movie on an African American family because it would add to society’s conversation of race in Hollywood.

With all these theories bouncing around, people are becoming impatient and are eager to find out what will happen in “Us”. However, audiences must wait two long months until they can see if their predictions are correct. What will happen to the family? Who are the Tethered? Do the rabbits have any significance? We will find out on March 22, 2019.
