Success is more than a perfect record
October 30, 2018
Since preseason, the girls varsity soccer team was off to a great start. After losing eight seniors last season, a majority of the team is underclassman and are paving the way for success in seasons to come.
So far, the team’s record is 5-6-1, although previous teams have had a better record than this one so far, the varsity team seems to be one of the most successful teams that has passed through the program.
“I think everyone on our team is so individually skilled, which really helps us play well as a team,” sophomore Abby Lonergan said. “It was easy to tell from the start we just clicked.”
The varsity team selected five freshmen and six sophomores, who greatly contribute to the team’s success. The team has a very elite skill level, but the success doesn’t just come from there.
“There is a lot of heart from every player,” sophomore Bella Vitella said. “This helps us work as a team and put everything into games and practices.”
This team continues to impress, and will leave a mark on this program. Although the team has suffered from some down years, this group will keep the name “West Essex Girls Soccer” very relevant.
The team is losing some key players after this season, but underclassmen are ready to step up and hopefully carry on this success.
“We have an extremely talented coaching staff, group of seniors and captains who all play important roles in our teams success” Lonergan said.
