New policies were put into place in order to help things run smoothly at our school. Administrators brainstormed and found ways to reduce the amount of traffic and late arrivals of students. For the first time, parents cannot enter the school. Instead, they must place the student’s forgotten items in a bin outside the front office. The driving rules for the seniors have also been modified.

When walking in the front entrance, the large bins catch many eyes. These bins are designed to limit access into the building and prevent a storm of people from flooding the hallway. They are cleared out once before lunch and once at the end of the day. “Some parents are appreciative,” principal Caesar Diliberto said. “I know it’s a little bit of an inconvenience at times. But I think for the most part parents understand the reasons for it.

In regards to senior driving, students who are late more than ten times lose their Senior Service privileges. Students with fifteen lates will lose their right to drive to school. The administrators felt it was essential to tighten up procedures and they knew this would do the trick. “It’s clear that driving is what students care about the most,” Diliberto said.

So far, the school feels these updates definitely helped keep everything and everyone in order. However, some students have different opinions.

“As a student, I think these changes are a little unnecessary,” sophomore Katelyn Doud said. “If I need my Chromebook I want my mom to be able to drop it off.”

Parents received an email before these rules were put into place. Now that school has started, they have gotten a feel for what they can and cannot do this year.

“When my daughter leaves something at home, rather than walking into the school I can just drop it right outside,” parent Michael Tartini said.

Overall, the administration’s goal is to keep the school safe and running steadily. These adjustments are helping to do so.
