Imagine eating smooth, thick, creamy peanut butter that sticks to the roof of your mouth. Now imagine your throat starts to close up and you’re gasping for air, as you’re looking for your EpiPen.

There’s always at least one kid in every class that’s allergic to peanut butter. And that kid is me. Everywhere I go, I’m surrounded by peanut butter lovers, including my own family.

I see kids eating peanut butter sandwiches in the cafeteria and then again I face it in health class where I’m forcibly taught how healthy it is for me. How healthy can peanut butter really be if it could kill me?

But the worst part of all about being allergic to peanut butter comes when I look at the Nutrition Facts label of some odd snack and see “May Contain Peanuts.” Imagine seeing yummy cookies in ShopRite that you want to buy but then find out it has one possible ingredient, peanuts. It’s tough having to always be surrounded by something I can’t have.

Almost every birthday party I’ve been to I’ve always been unable to eat at least one dessert because it has peanuts in it. While all the other little kids would be eating peanut butter cake, I would just be watching, feeling left out.

I understand that everyone likes peanut butter because it can go with anything and because it tastes good. You can put it on fruit, sandwiches, cakes — I mean, what more could you ask for?

Even though I hate peanut butter in every way possible, there’s still a small part of me that wishes I can try it. Maybe just one little bite won’t hurt….
