Students and teachers show off talent at Fall Showcase

The Fall Showcase was held on Nov. 30 and sponsored by the National English Honor Society. At this coffeehouse-style fundraiser for charity, students read poetry, sang and played various instruments. Musical acts ranged from pop music to country covers to even full-band metal.

Some of the memorable student performances were Matt Uhlendorf’s rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt,” and metal band Gravenimage’s performance of a song called “Refuge,” led by sophomore T.J. Viola. Juniors Teddy Press and Audrey Gracen performed a vocal cover of “House of the Rising Sun, by The Animals.

One of the most anticipated acts of the night was The Kite Runners, a band made up of 10th grade English staff. The members, Mr. Hermosilla, Mr. Collins, Ms. Ruiz, Mr Myerson and Ms. Miller, sang Taylor Swift’s “We are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” Though people loved to see their fellow teachers take up the mic, the large number of students that took part in the Showcase helped the event transpire.

“The show was a huge success thanks to all of the great student performances,” said organizer and English teacher Ms. Ruiz.

The Showcase will happen again this school year, in the Spring of 2018, so if you are interested in performing or watching your peers and teachers, then you can sign up to perform in front of all of your friends or simply attend.
