The Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX, winning their second Lombardi Trophy. Seattle dominated throughout all four quarters, being led by a strong defensive performance that yielded six sacks, three turnovers and a shutout through three quarters.
Seattle’s running back Kenneth Walker III took home the Super Bowl MVP award after his 135 rushing yards on 27 attempts, which jump-started their offense. Walker is the first running back to win this award since Terrell Davis for the Denver Broncos in 1998. In a game that had limited offense, quarterback Sam Darnold finished with 202 passing yards and a touchdown pass to tight end AJ Barner. Jason Myers kicked five field goals to help Seattle push past New England. The Patriots struggled to sustain long drives against Seattle’s “Dark Side Defense” as quarterback Drake Maye. threw two interceptions and had only 60 passing yards.
For Darnold, the redemption story is complete. From being considered one of the biggest busts in NFL history to leading a team to the Super Bowl, he has emerged as one of the league’s top quarterbacks. Seattle is Darnold’s fifth team in eight years, and he is in his first year with the organization after signing a three-year, $105 million contract. He leads them to the promised land alongside key players like Jaxson Smith-Njigba, the 2025 AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year, and defensive lineman Leonard Williams. In addition to Darnold, second-year head coach Mike MacDonald has made an impact in Seattle, becoming the third-youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl.
The New England Patriots came in with a young core, a new coach and the easiest regular-season schedule since 1999. Quarterback Drake Maye made his first Super Bowl appearance in his second year in the league at 23 years old. With high expectations, Maye was expected to deliver another high-caliber performance, yet he was underwhelming, with some calling it the worst game of his professional career. The Patriots’ offense, including veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs and tight end Hunter Henry, was held to just six combined receptions. Defensively, cornerback Christian Gonzalez made an impressive impact, holding the Seahawks offense to field goals in the first half. While the team might have fallen short in the end, the Patriots have once again solidified themselves as a contender every single season as long as Drake Maye is at the center of the offense.
The Seahawks and Patriots previously met in Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, where Malcolm Butler had one of the most iconic and controversial plays in NFL history, intercepting quarterback Russell Wilson at New England’s one-yard line to secure the Patriots another Super Bowl title. Seattle has waited over a decade to erase that memory, and now got its revenge in a season where they had the best record in the NFL, the No. 1 seed in the NFC, a first-round bye in the playoffs and a Super Bowl title to bring glory back to The Emerald City.
