The Wrestling Knights pulled off an impressive comeback win last Friday, defeating rival Caldwell 38-32, ending the Chiefs’ six-match win streak and securing the Knights’ fourth straight win. The match came down to critical performances by the heavier weights that came later in the night.
Several wrestlers picked up huge wins across the night. Early into the match, Christian Bastante won by technical fall, and Mark Farah and Joe Formosa came out with wins in close matches. Reid Clausi continued his undefeated streak by pinning his opponent in under 20 seconds, setting a tone for the rest of the match. Kole Corcoran, Joe Cutruzzula and Danny Harraka all pinned their opponents, picking up key points to give the Knights a 35-32 lead heading into the final match of the night.
The decision came down to heavyweight wrestler Rocco Maglione, who sealed the victory with a 4-2 win.
“Joey and Danny picking up those pins really gave me the boost of confidence to get the win that the team needed,” Maglione said. “The win over Caldwell gave us the momentum that we needed going forward.”
Building on this momentum, the Wrestling Knights extended their win streak on Saturday, dominating Mendham with a 65-6 victory and Hunterdon Central with a score of 54-9. As the season progresses, the Knights look to continue winning with hopes of going far into their tournaments.
