I believe the voting age should be lowered to 16 in America. The first reason why age should be lowered is because of teenagers contributing to society. Many teenagers drive and are employed therefore contributing to society but are taxed without any representation. If teenagers are being taxed for their jobs they should get to have a say in how they are being taxed (the ability to vote). Another reason teenagers (16-17) should be able to vote is education. Education in high school teaches kids about history, government, and current events. This type of information gives kids enough information to make informed decisions even at their “young” age.
People who argue 16-17-year-olds should not be able to vote claim that they are not mature enough to vote. It can be true that 16-year-old teenagers are not fully mature to vote, but the same can be said about adults as well. Some adults don’t do research when voting for parties or candidates but still are given the right to vote. Highlighting that teenagers should be given the opportunity to vote to learn through experience just like adults. Changing the age limit for Americans to vote would strengthen democracy giving contributing individuals to society another freedom.
