I do not think the voting age should be lowered to the age of 16 in the USA. I think this because when you’re 16, you are still growing and developing, and with that, so are your opinions and thoughts. Your brain is also still developing, and by 18, your brain is still developing as well; however, it is much more adapted than your brain at 16 is. I’m only 17 now, about to turn 18, but if I looked to myself back then, I surely wouldn’t trust myself with making decisions as serious as voting. Also, when you’re still as young as 16, you still may be very swayable when it comes to something like politics, so you can be convinced very easily to vote for one side or another. A lot of 16-year-olds have already picked a side in politics, but still, a lot haven’t, so instead of having those who haven’t been persuaded to join a side, let them take their time to choose it themselves.
Some may say, 16 years old is a major step towards adulthood, so they should be ready at that time, or many 16-year-olds seem to have a strong political side. Yes, sure, many 16-year-olds have a strong political side, but I would say a good part of them could have their opinion changed on a whim; it’s very volatile. Sure, some have a set political side when that young, though I can’t speak from experience with that. I’m 17 now and still haven’t picked a side. Also, 16 may be a major step towards adulthood, but a lot changes in the two years between being 16 and 18; important things may happen to change your stance, and you may be developing a stance during that time. This is why I think the voting age should not be lowered to 16 in the US., It’s just too young an age to give such an important decision to a person.
