I believe that lowering the voting age to 16 would be a positive reform. People under 16 follow the laws passed by the government, such as school policies, taxation, and more. Since teenagers follow the laws enacted by the government, they deserve to have a voice in shaping these policies. Granting the right to vote could help young adults build good voting habits early on and continue participation in democracy later in life.
Others may argue that 16-year-olds lack the maturity and knowledge to vote responsibly. Although, many adults also vote with limited knowledge, yet they still get a say in the government. If schools put a bigger focus on civics and students had more resources, then the immaturity argument does not work. Due to these reasons, I believe that reducing the voting age to 16 is a great idea that will strengthen engagement in democracy and make it more fair.
