I think that 16 and 17-year-olds should be able to vote. The article shows that many teenagers already take on big responsibilities like working jobs, paying taxes, and even caring for their siblings. For example, David Sharyan, who is only 17 years old, pays taxes at his job and is upset that he has no representation. Additionally, Nathaniel Esubonteng claims that teenagers are already organizing campaigns and are helping in their communities, so therefore voting would just match the responsibilities they already have. Lastly, supporters also believe that lowering the voting age would create stronger voting habits in the future.
On the other hand, some people argue that teenagers might not be ready for the responsibility of voting since it is very serious. For example, Mason Fullerton who recently graduated, claims that he is worried that the 16 and 17-year-old teenagers may be influenced by social media on their decisions and are not wise enough to make the right choice. Even though I understand that side, I still believe that we should lower the voting age because adults don’t make perfect choices when they vote too. Therefore, it’s only fair that teenagers get the same chance.
