I believe that the voting age should be lowered to 16 years old. For some teenagers, getting a part-time job would usually start at 16 years old, resulting in taxes being taken out of their paycheck. Therefore, they should be allowed to provide their insight into elections as they are complying with the rules of the government. Additionally, at age 16, individuals should be in the prime of learning about history and the rules of election, which they should be allowed to have fair access to vote, as they should understand the government and the rules of regulation. Finally, bringing in a new age of voters starting at 16 would allow a whole new demographic of voters, increasing the number of voters for the different candidates.
However, there are reasons why the voting age should not be lowered to 16. In fact, 16-year-olds are still maturing and understanding the world around them; therefore, some could say 16-year-olds could be considered immature. In having access to professional voting, 16-year-olds might not take it seriously, putting a negative effect on votes and who could potentially win the election. Additionally, 16-year-olds might not understand everything there is to know about elections and the candidates, so having them vote would create chaos in the elections. Nevertheless, I still believe 16-year-olds should be allowed to vote. At most, if 16 is too young, the voting age should definitely be lowered to 17.
