I believe the voting age should stay at 18 instead of being lowered to 16 because when someone is only 16 years old, their mind has not yet fully developed to understand where they have to vote and how to fill out the different papers required to vote. Lowering the voting age may also hurt how accurate the voting should be due to the constant influence of social media and 16-year-olds just voting based on who told them to on social media. 16-year-olds also have not fully finished high school and may not understand how the political system works fully. They also might be inclined not to form their own opinion and instead just listen to someone else’s opinion. One reason that can be refuted is that 16-year-olds do not know political parties. This can be refuted because most 16-year-olds have access to the internet and learn about the political parties themselves. They can go on Google and look up the Republican Party and see what they stand for, and the same thing for the Democratic Party. With this information, they can choose which party they want to vote for, and they will be informed and knowledgeable on who to vote for and how.
