I believe the voting age should remain at 18 years old. This is because a 16-year-old is going to have different issues than an adult. This poses a problem because if younger people are able to vote then politicians are going to try to appeal to them by focusing on their issues, which aren’t issues for the majority of the population. This also may focus their attention away from the broader population. Also if they lower the voting age to 16, what stops them from lowering it more. The base being 18/being an adult is at a good spot, it’s one of the major responsibilities/privileges you gain when becoming an adult.
I can also see the argument that 16-year-olds should be able to vote. This is because people who are 16 can work a job and have to pay taxes. Their frustration of not being able to have a say in government when paying taxes is understandable. But I don’t think this gives them a reason to vote because there are also a ton of privileges you can’t receive until you turn 21 years old.
