I believe that the voting age should be lowered to 16. 16 is the common age that one is allowed to start working at many places. As 16 and 17-year-old’s start to earn and spend money, they are being taxed. For this reason, they should have a right to vote so they can help decide how the government chooses to spend their money. Additionally, being part of the democratic process evokes a scene of nationality. Without this right, 16 and 17 are left feeling powerless in their country. Finally, 16 and 17-year-olds are at an age where they can develop mature political beliefs, but these beliefs cannot be supported until they are allowed to vote.
On the other hand, some say that the voting age should stay as it is. The reason to support this claim is that many 16 and 17-year-olds still live with their parents. This often results in children adopting their parents political beliefs and not forming one that is truly their own yet. I believe this claim to be false. 16 and 17-year-olds are passively exposed to the world of politics through social media. This allows them to construct beliefs that truly belong to them and not their parents.
