Being an 18-year-old who is allowed to vote this year helps me understand and makes me think about this question more. I believe that the voting age in the United States should remain the same at 18-years-old instead of lowering the voting age to 16-years-old. I feel that this is the perfect age for voters in this country to vote for because this is when you become an adult. Anyone who is younger than 18, may not have enough knowledge or even have their own political beliefs yet and really understand who or why they should vote for.
I feel that teenagers may lack the maturity by handling such an important responsibility by voting for this country. 16-year-olds already face the effects of government policies and education and jobs and this shows that they are ready for civic responsibility. For this reason, I believe that lowering the voting age in the United States to 16 would help strengthen democracy by allowing the younger generation’s voice to be heard.
