I do not think the voting age should be lowered to 16 because most teens are not prepared to take on this responsibility. At 16 years old, most teens are still in high school and may not have enough experience in life to understand their effects on political opinions and decisions. Also, most 16-year-olds still rely on their parents physically and financially, which could make it harder for them to form their own opinions about issues like taxes or healthcare. The current age of 18 makes sense because by that time most people are either employed, in college, or starting to live more independently. This gives them a stronger understanding of how government decisions affect their daily lives.
Some people argue that 16-year-olds should be allowed to vote because they are old enough to drive, work, and even pay taxes in some cases. While it is true, being able to drive or work a part time job does not mean that a teenager has the maturity and knowledge to make choices about complex issues associated with voting. Voting requires careful judgment about laws and leaders that impact people all over the world, not just personal freedom like driving, so keeping the voting age at 18 makes more sense.
