In my opinion, a 16-year-old should not be involved in politics. One primary reason is that at this young age, many teenagers are not mature enough to handle complex pressures of political decisions. Many that I have met and know often lack life experience and critical thinking skills needed to vote for political issues effectively. Additionally, involving them in politics can lead to stress and anxiety, as they may become miserable and overwhelmed by the media and political talks, knowing that talks will constantly be brought up by older people. It’s essential for young people to focus on their personal development and education rather than get involved in political debates.
While some argue that exposure to politics can lead to engagement among young people, this perspective overlooks the potential for emotional distress. Many 16-year-olds that I know are still struggling with their own personal challenges, and I think that added political pressures are not needed this early. Introducing young individuals into the political arena can do more harm than good, stunting their growth and well being rather than needing a sense of responsibility.
