I think that the voting age should be lowered to 16 because many decisions being made in the government heavily influence teens. Not only that, but several young adults, like myself, have a job which they have to pay taxes for, and it is unfair they do not have any control over that. In the American Revolution, our founding fathers fought against taxation without representation, and now a similar phenomenon is occurring. Furthermore, this would encourage young people to take an interest in the government and learn their rights; it might even inspire some to run for office one day. It shows young people that they have an influence, they can share their voice, and they can be a valued member of their community.
Some people may not want the voting age lowered because teens are often perceived as immature, unmotivated, uneducated, or unpredictable. People do not trust teenagers because they often have a bad reputation even though that is only a stereotype. Teens have a different perspective on the world compared to adults. This new and refreshing point of view could open up so many possibilities for America. It is also important to consider that the teens of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. If anything, teens should be allowed to witness everything first hand to prevent mistakes or misunderstandings in the future, when they are adults. Young adults play a big role in society as we know it, and therefore the voting age should be lowered.
