I believe the voting age should not be lowered to 16. At that age, most teenagers are not mature enough to make such big decisions that affect the country. Many 16-year-olds are still in high school and may not fully have a clear understanding of what is happening in politics or how laws really impact their lives. Additionally, teens are often strongly influenced by their parents or friends, which means they might not make independent choices.
Some people argue that lowering the voting age would give teens a voice since laws and politics affect what’s to come in the future. Although that is true, teenagers already have other ways to speak up, like joining clubs at school, community groups, or even protests within their areas. Voting should come with a higher level of maturity and responsibility, and this is why I believe the right age to vote in the U.S should remain at 18 years old.
