Two people were killed and several more injured in a campus shooting at Florida State University on April 17, and a FSU student was identified as the suspected shooter, according to an April 18 CNN article.
At least five victims who were injured have since been released from the hospital, according to a BBC article from April 23. The two men killed were identified as Robert Morales, who worked as the FSU dining coordinator, and Tiru Chabba, a visiting father of two, NBC reported on April 17.
The suspect was shot by campus police after refusing to comply with commands. He sustained significant but not life-threatening injuries. Since the attack, it has become clear that the suspect is the son of a local deputy. The weapon used in this attack was his mother’s service weapon, CNN reported.
The suspected shooter’s motive has not been identified by police; however, previous classmates have made it clear how his comments often made others uncomfortable, according to an NBC article from April 18. One student exposed how he would joke about mass violence. Students shared how he made comments supporting the use of the Nazi symbol. However, it is not clear if political ideology was a factor in the attack.
CNN reported on April 17 that the suspect did not seem to have a specific target. After leaving the hospital, the suspect will be taken to a detention facility where he will await trial. He could face charges up to and including first-degree murder, according to a CNN article from April 18.
