Ed. note: The Wessex Wire worked with AP Government and Politics teacher Beth Vaknin to develop this special series of opinion essays with two sections of her AP Gov class.
The Electoral College is the system with which we elect the president of the United States. Each state holds a popular vote, and then the winning party’s electors are sent to Washington D.C. to cast their votes. We asked 33 AP Government and Politics students what they think of this controversial system:
- 23 said that the Electoral College should be abolished.
- 2 said should that the Electoral College should be kept.
- 8 said should that the Electoral College should be altered.
Below, find links to all of the students’ work, randomized and loosely labeled by whether each student writer argues the system should be Kept (Green), Altered (Yellow) or Abolished (Red).
