For the first time since 1981, the West Essex Boys Swim Team concluded their season as the Liberty Division Section Champions. The aquaknights brought their spirit and talent to kick the competition away at every meet.
Even as favorites to win the meet, the team still brought their best efforts and high spirits to every race. Halfway through the meet, the team was told that they already had enough points to come out with the win. They finished off strong and took home the first title in 43 years.
They ended their season with an impressive record of 6-3— their only three losses from teams outside their conference. Despite suffering three losses in a row, they bounced back strong and won six straight wins. Senior captain, John Moss, shares how it felt to be a part of this phenomenal team.
“This win was everything to me,” Moss said. “It felt amazing to be a part of West Essex history.”
The team upheld their chemistry through every meet and cheered each other on during their events. Their encouragement towards each other led to a successful season filled with many accomplishments.
Senior captain, Colin Ko, went undefeated this season. His talent and hard work has translated into such success.
“As an underclassman in the sport, it was difficult transitioning to competing with much older swimmers, but it motivated me to work harder in a way,” Ko said. “I feel very proud of the work I’ve put in to get to a spot like this but also very grateful for all the coaches and teammates from club and West Essex that have helped me get to where I am today.”
The seniors on the team are all grateful for their time on the team and are ecstatic about finishing their career as sectional champions. As for the future of the aquaknights, the team looks forward to continuing to build its legacy.
