A Not-So-New Look at ‘The Kardashians’ on Hulu
After a 20-season-long run, “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” finally came to an end in June 2021. A year of no cameras seems to have made the girls realize that they missed the spotlight, and “The Kardashians” premiered on Hulu on April 14, filled with more drama and family content. The sisters’ goal was to show themselves in a new light, providing the fans with a different perspective of their lives. The difference between the two: absolutely nothing. But we still love it.
The shows have little to no differences. The new series seems to be a collage of showing off their most prized possessions, their money and their famous boyfriends. The Kardashian girls have the recurring issues of cheating men and manipulative friends, the same old story every single time. Whether it’s Khloe being cheated on by Tristan, Kim being manipulated by Kanye, or Kourtney arguing with Scott, this never seems to change.
“The two shows are incredibly similar and the plot lines are the exact same,” sophomore Delaney Connell said. “Nonetheless, I still think the new show is great.”
Kendall seems to be doing the same thing she usually does: complaining about paparazzi. From cursing them out to running away, she makes her hatred for them clear.
“The shows are definitely repetitive,” freshman Priya Marcus said. “It’s usually just Kendall complaining and all of them either breaking or losing things.”
Nonetheless, I do enjoy watching the Kardashian clan live their life. No matter what they’re doing, it’s always either filled with overblown drama or just plain old entertaining. It’s nice to be able to have real-time insight into their lives, rather than just scrolling through their photoshopped Instagrams or Tiktoks.
Despite the similarities, the year-long break did bring a few new plot lines. Kourtney introduced her then-boyfriend Travis Barker, Kim is newly divorced from Kanye and Khloe is dealing with her current complicated issues with Tristan.
“It’s interesting to see how their lives have changed since the original show,” sophomore Madison Quiqley said.
The new plot lines create some slightly differences in how the show portrays their family dynamic. The Hulu special gives the viewers a deeper look into their family life, rather than just the arguments and feuds that used to be highlighted. There are constant family gatherings that focus on the children rather than the sisters themselves.
“The original Kardashians show consisted of a lot of arguing and drama between the family,” junior Dalal Jaber said. “Now it’s mainly about their kids and work; it’s nice to finally see a healthy change between them.”
Overall, the dynamics of the two shows are incredibly similar, but that doesn’t mean we enjoy them any less. Although it is quite predictable, we are excited to see what’s next for the girls.
