Women in the music industry have the power to inspire their fans beyond taking the stage.

Every March, we honor the women who have made a lasting impact on society. Women’s History Month is dedicated to celebrating the impressive accomplishments and remarkable discoveries made by women across the globe. This month, we will be taking a look at a few of the female powerhouses that have dominated the entertainment industry.

Considering she was recently pronounced Billboard’s Woman of the Year, it is imperative that we start with the awe-inspiring Olivia Rodrigo. The 19-year-old musical magician first made her mark on television starring in Disney’s “Bizaardvark” and “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” Her true breakthrough moment struck when her 2021 debut single “drivers license” broke decades-long records in days. Rodrigo kept the ball rolling with the release of her award-winning album, “Sour,” holding the music industry in the palm of her hand through her climb to fame. Her success will continue to reign on with rumors of new music in the air. This remarkable year of achievements is only the first chapter of Rodrigo’s story.

Speaking of women of the year, the two-time recipient of the award, Taylor Swift, has rightfully earned a spot on this list. Her 11 grammy awards do not begin to scratch the surface of the impact Swift has on her fans. Her ability to seamlessly weave through five different genres of music along with writing all of her own songs has deemed her an inspiration for the past decade and a half. Each of her albums somehow seem to embody a wow factor that has captivated fans through her 11 (and counting) breakthrough albums. Her abundance of awards has been accompanied by motivational speeches that spread wisdom to her fans. Swift is vocal about her passion for political activism and continues to create her legacy that stretches beyond the melodies.

The Best Selling Digital Artist of all time should undoubtedly “Take a Bow” for the lives she has changed with both her music and charitable efforts. Rihanna uses her powerful fame to a heart-warming advantage, advocating for causes she feels connected to and contributing a wide variety of donations. Her efforts have extended into the fashion industry as well, being named creative director of the design company, Puma, and launching the Reb’l Fleur fragrance. Her music is a timeless staple in society, encompassing the perfect mixture of songs that offer something for everyone.

These three icons have shaped the music industry in their own way. Olivia Rodrigo embodies the newest generation of musical legends, Taylor Swift has set the precedent for multi-genre artists to come, and Rihanna proved the ability to break out of simply the “musician” mold.
