As the basketball season comes to an end, both teams are nothing short of proud.

Boys Basketball shoots for success in state tournament

The Boys Basketball team has had an impressive 2021-2022 season with a 16-8 record entering the state tournament. The squad is 17-9 in the SEC-Independence conference, their success stemming from contributions throughout the lineup. Senior Chris Corbo has led the way for the Knights leading the team in points, steals and rebounds. His historic season was capitalized when he broke the West Essex career points record against Northern Highlands. In addition to Corbo, junior Joe Ganton has emerged as a key player leading his team in assists and is just second to Corbo in points. The success of the Knights traces back to coaches Bill Humes and Michael Llauget. Looking to make a run in states, the Knights chemistry and talent look promising for the varsity squad.

Girls Basketball fights through their season

Getting to the top conference in Essex County is no easy feat, but the Girls Basketball team has used grit and determination to make the jump over the past few seasons. Now battling game in and game out against the best teams in the county, the Knights enter the state tournament with a 6-14 record.  Senior Halle Aschenbach leads in both points and steals while junior Elliot Biggerstaff leads the team with an impressive 59 rebounds. The team has received contributions from all four grades, making their chemistry and effort all the more impressive. Coach Amber Tobia has effectively utilized the variety of grades, as each age brings a different quality to the lineup that has allowed them to compete with some of New Jersey’s best. Their season ended on Feb. 28 in the first round of the state tournament against top-seeded Sparta.
