After the nail biting cliffhanger that “Spider-Man: Far From Home” left fans with back in 2019, people have been itching to see what the future holds for protagonist Peter Parker. On Feb. 23, Tom Holland (Peter Parker), Zendaya, (MJ) and Jacob Batalon (Ned) all posted stills from the upcoming Spider-man movie in their Instagrams but with all different titles. At first, fans were confused but then they took to Twitter, making memes and creating their own movie titles. A day later, Holland posted a video with Zendaya and Batalon and at the end of the short video, they revealed the real title for the new movie, “Spider-man: No Way Home”

As soon as the real title was revealed, fans instantly started theorizing what it means in regards to the plot. The theory that seems to be the most popular is that Peter Parker will somehow discover the Multiverse while trying to prove his innocence. If you remember from the Far From Home post-credit scene, Parker’s identity was revealed to the public by Mysterio (played by Jake Gyllenhaal). Mysterio managed to release a video that reveals Spider-man identity, but attempts to turn the public against him, painting him out to be the villain. In order to prove his innocence, fans think Peter Parker will be uncovering the Multiverse with the help of Dr. Strange. It has been confirmed that “No Way Home” will tie into “Doctor Strange 2″ and that Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange)  himself will have a cameo. Because Parker will be opening the Multiverse, fans theorize that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who have taken on the role of Spider-man in the past, will also make an appearance. Fans also speculate that Mysterio is actually still alive, as he is a master of illusions and trickery. They believe he once again used illusions to make Peter Parker believe he is dead but in reality, he is alive and watching Parker’s world fall apart.

While having to battle the public in an attempt to prove himself, Parker will also have to juggle beating up some villains. The confirmed villains include Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Doc Ock (Alfred Molina). These two antagonists were seen already in the Spider-man Universe, but not in Holland’s. Electro was seen in the 2014 adaptation with protagonist Andrew Garfield and Doc Ock made his appearance in the 2004 adaptation with the original Spider-man, Tobey Maguire. With these two villains confirmed, it helps support the fan theory of a Multiverse situation.

Unfortunately, Marvel fans will have to wait till Dec. 17 to see their favorite web-slinging hero back in action. Until then, all we can do is wait and theorize to our heart’s content.
