Zest is a lively eatery home to many salads, smoothies, acai bowls, baked goods, toast, sandwiches and juices. Located in her hometown of Fairfield, owner Luciana Gencarelli (Contuzzi) grew Zest from its roots with the goal of creating treats that are both nutritious and delicious. With a variety of well-loved dairy free, gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and organic options, Luciana created a comforting place perfect for satisfying cravings without guilt. The pictures hanging up on the bright green walls creates a happy vibe that the owner and employees are hoping to provide. At this time, Zest lovers are still able to eat or get their favorites through curbside pickup, online gift cards and donations.

What makes your business unique as opposed to others? Especially in this area, there’s nothing like it. It caters to allergies like celiac and people who can’t have dairy, but also people with dietary restrictions who don’t want to eat meat, who are vegan, who just want to eat healthier. There’s a large variety of food, you can get sweet, you can get savory, so there’s something for everyone.

What do you miss most about having your dining area open? I miss seeing the customers, and interacting with them face to face. It’s hard not to see [customers] everyday or to see people eating their food, enjoying their food, giving us positive feedback.

What are some of the ways people could best support your business right now? We still are doing curbside pickup, we also do online gift cards or over the phone gift cards, and another great thing is we are donating food to local hospitals and first responders! How that works is people are going online and donating a certain quantity of salads or smoothies, or they could do a monetary donation, and then we use that to make food for the healthcare workers and first responders. It’s sort of a win win helping support us, and also helping support everyone who’s on the front lines with providing them with healthy foods.
