Steven A. Doud Landscape Design is a full-service design company. The Doud family has carried this business on for over 30 years now as the business has been passed down throughout generations. Steven Doud has lived in the West Essex area almost his whole life and said he feels free being a landscape architect in the place he grew up. Since 1984, the company has been based in Fairfield and they service all around the Essex County area, Morris and Somerset Counties. The majority of their work revolves around commercial apartment complexes with two sites in Caldwell and one site in Fairfield. They have been providing landscape solutions for New Jersey business owners with services that include landscape lighting, walkway lighting, deck design, trellis design, hydroseeding, pavers, drainage systems, gazebos and landscaping to coordinate with business decor. 

How long has your business been running and what is your favorite part of it? “It’s been running since 1984 and the best part about it is the freedom. It gives me freedom to do things because I am my own boss, I would say.”

What inspired you to continue this business? “It’s just something that I have always done since I was a junior in high school and I guess it’s all I know. I have a family and I have to support my family and my kids. That’s why I get up everyday.” 

What are your most significant accomplishments? “I would say just the fact that where the business started 30 years ago to where it is now and just being able to survive that long in this kind of business is an accomplishment.”
