Taking on bigger jobs

Physical education and health teacher Kaitlyn Heun is an outgoing person. Although coming from a previous smaller school, Heun likes taking on big jobs. She is strong headed and excited to do her job. Originally from rival school Caldwell, Heun admits that the size and greatness of a school like West Essex is what she wanted.

“It is crazy large; Caldwell is super tiny, so it’s a big change, but other than that it’s been awesome. All the kids are great, all the teachers are great, I got no complaints,” Heun said with eagerness.

Heun said she’s always been into the subject of health and had been teaching it for many years. She loves starting new things and said she thought the health program at West Essex High School would be the best fit for her.

“I am most excited just to be able to work with everybody here and get to meet everybody. Like I said there’s a lot of kids in this building and there’s a lot of kids in the district so it’s nice getting to see a lot of new people,” said Heun.

Soccer has always been one of her favorite sports ever since she was a little girl, which makes sense, since Heun is also a girls’ soccer junior varsity coach. Her competitiveness comes into play when it comes to soccer, she said; it’s how she accomplishes her goals and what helps her converse with others as well.

“I am an introvert but also a people person, it’s a weird combo. I can get along with anyone and everyone. I like being in groups of people and getting to meet lots of different people and hear all their interesting stories. I think everyone has a story, whether they know it or not, and I love getting to learn them,” said Heun.

Heun said she enjoys the variety in the school along with the new exciting challenges she gets to face this year with being a new teacher in a new environment. She is the kind of person to be confident in what she does and make things more exciting for herself and others.

“ I like learning and I think that the best thing you can do for yourself is to never stop learning,” said Heun.
