Presidents’ social media use should be monitored

Due to the former president’s social media activity, the question of credibility and authenticity of the president’s tweets were brought into question and therefore, prompting Twitter to ban Donald Trump. I think that social media sites should be able to ban the president however, I do not believe that social media should be off limits to the president.

In today’s day and age, social media is very apparent and very present. The president having social media, to an extent, can be a good thing. It would allow for the president to communicate to the public much more quickly and for them to express their ideas. However, social media can be risky because not everyone will agree with what the president chooses to post. This could ensue hate comments, online fights, and backlash.

That’s why I think that the president should be monitored by a social media manager to check what they are posting and how people will respond to it. In terms of social media sights, I think they too should play a role in fact checking. Tons of misinformation can be found online and it is hard to tell what is real and what is not. Therefore, I think social media sites should definity make it a point to fact check, verify, and control user content from large political figures.

A president not having social media at this point in society would make them seem very uninvolved in American culture therefore, I think it is justified for a presidential figure to have a Twitter. However, it is also justified for different social media platforms to get involved in what is being posted and regulate what should and should not be posted according to their guidelines. This could be done through algorithms that the sites can make in order to prevent backlash on these social media websites.
