Originally scheduled for release in 2014, “Tha Carter V” is Lil Wayne’s fifth installment of his “Tha Carter” album series — and it finally dropped on Sept. 28.

“Tha Carter V” was caught up in several delays as a result of a legal issue between Lil Wayne and Cash Money Records, but this didn’t stop Wayne from releasing what he had been working on for almost half a decade.

“His music is still amazing because he is the same exact person as he was 10 years ago,” senior Jimmy Zhang said.

This will be Lil Wayne’s fourth No. 1 album after releasing it in under a week. With an assortment of 23 songs, Wayne has several artists featured on the album, including  XXXtentacion, Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar. Wayne is even joined on his track “Famous” by his daughter, Reginae Carter. Most of the tracks in this album were recorded in 2015.

Of the Top 10 songs on streaming services last week, six were by Lil Wayne, including “Mona Lisa” featuring Kendrick Lamar and “Can’t Be Broken.” These have been his most popular is recent chartings, but not everyone believes for this to be his best work.

“This definitely was his second best album because ‘Carter IV’ was just one of the best albums he ever came out with,” junior James DeMichele said.

The long awaited return of Lil Wayne has had such great feedback. “Tha Carter V” album is definitely on almost every student’s playlists. Hitting every region of rap, Lil Wayne made it worth the wait.
